Sensitive Content in Conference Presentations
Typically, presentations at CHI PLAY cover a range of topics, including those that are sensitive. Your conference presentation may delve into such sensitive subjects, potentially containing topics or content that some attendees might find distressing. This content may encompass explicit references to topics such as sexual abuse, harassment, self-harm, violence, eating disorders, and more, in the form of images, video clips, audio clips, or text. We ask you to consider if your presentation does include such content for two reasons:
1) If you do engage with such content, we ask you to reflect on your presentation and strategies for talking about difficult topics with the respect that they deserve, keeping in mind that members of the audience may have lived experience of the issues that you address.
2) In consideration of our conference’s atmosphere, if you anticipate your presentation touching upon these themes, we kindly request that you inform the Technical Program Chairs (technicalprogram@chiplay.acm.org).
This will allow us to include a brief notice in our program (content warning), enabling our audience to emotionally prepare for the content or make an informed decision about engaging with it. In addition, please think about including such a message in your own presentations. For more guidance, please see guidelines on content warnings and presentations (Section on Accessibility Considerations).
