Are you sure this is right track to submit? All Companion Proceedings tracks in CHI PLAY share the same deadline and similar formats. However, all tracks are designed for specific types of contribution and we understand that sometimes it can be confusing to choose which track to submit to. If you are not sure if a track is the right track to submit, please see Companion Submission Overview & Guidelines for a detailed explanation of submission types and topics for different tracks and overall guidelines regarding submissions to companion proceedings.

The Interactivity track is an opportunity for researchers, designers, and artists within the wider CHI PLAY community to showcase their work in a hands-on setting that gives conference attendees the opportunity to explore and discuss their systems. We seek submissions that push the boundaries of playful human-computer interaction through technical advancement, innovative interaction concepts, or stimulate aesthetic and critical reflection through design. Authors or creators should consider the Interactivity track, when they consider the experiential dimension as a fundamental condition for appreciating their work, understanding its contribution, or stimulating discussion with visitors.
The Interactivity track at CHI PLAY invites submissions in two main categories: research and design. Submissions to the research category are expected to contribute to our understanding of how humans interact with playful technologies, which needs to be evidenced by thoroughly situating results in previous research in our field when preparing the extended abstract. Submissions to the design category are expected to provide an experience that engages conference attendees and stimulates conversation; in their abstract submission, we expect authors to describe the design case and reflect on the play experience.
In addition to physical live demos, we encourage authors to submit games and interactive experiences that can still be played by the audience during a live-demo session that takes place partially online, such as browser-based experiences or that can be made accessible through a conferencing/sharing system.
SUBMISSION FORMAT
- Up to 8 pages in ACM Journals Primary Template, single-column manuscript style (excluding references)
- Submissions are NOT anonymous, detailed instructions on formatting and submission can be found at Companion Proceedings Submission Guidelines.
- A 3-min video demonstrating the Interactive system. Please see Video Guidelines for our recommendations about the video submissions.
REVIEW PROCESS
Interactivity submissions will be vetted by the track chairs and curated by a small committee.
UPON ACCEPTANCE
Authors will have three weeks to prepare a camera-ready version of the paper incorporating the feedback provided by reviewers and will be given the option to upload an updated video. Additionally, Interactivity chairs will be in contact to finalize technical and logistical requirements for exhibition.
DURING THE CONFERENCE
Interactivity contributions are made available to the community during an interactive exhibition during the conference. Presenters will be responsible for bringing and setting up their demos at the conference venue. Authors will be prompted to describe the general requirements regarding space and common equipment that the organization might be able to accommodate, otherwise authors should plan to provide and assemble their own technical requirements. We may need to reject work if we cannot reasonably find a technical solution (e.g., space).
AFTER THE CONFERENCE
All accepted Interactivity papers and corresponding videos will be archived in the ACM Digital Library in the CHI PLAY 2025 Companion Proceedings.
